Dow Chemical Discovery Biologist - Herbicides in Indianapolis, Indiana
Corteva Agriscience™,Agriculture Division ofDowDupontis seeking aWeed Scientistto join Crop Protection Discovery Biology. The candidate will participate on multidisciplinary teams to discover and advance novel crop protection technologies into the Crop Protection Discovery pipeline. Qualified candidates will use their expertise in weed science to assist in the design and evaluation of novel herbicide candidates.
Serve as herbicide biology subject matter expert and/or project leader on multi-disciplinary teams to collaborate, provide technical input and deliver results aligned with Crop Protection Discovery product goals.
Utilize demonstrated expertise in weed science including plant physiology, herbicide resistance and herbicide fate to support the characterization and advancement of novel molecules or technologies within the discovery pipeline.
Design and execute herbicide screening assays across various projects.
Leverage deep understanding of molecular biology, plant biochemistry and metabolic pathways to elucidate experimental compound mode-of-action.
Define and conduct research across multiple project areas using in-depth knowledge and proactive application of scientific principles, theory and experimental design.
Demonstrate expertise in use of experimental/computational/theoretical methods and data handling.
Participate and contribute to the innovation process through new opportunity identification.
Keep current with developments in weed science via in-depth understanding of patent, journal literature and competitive landscape and implement applications that will benefit Corteva™ agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDupont.
Share subject matter expertise through collaborations, coaching & mentoring.
Deliver presentations or reports that distill complex ideas into clear results and proposals; communicates appropriately to influence internal and external audiences.
Communicate and appropriately document work in the form of internal reports/presentations and external publications/presentations (when appropriate). Draft and submit patent disclosures as appropriate.
Develops strategies for using external contact network; demonstrated influence to external organizations that impact and contribute to Corteva™ agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDupont success.
Willing to comply with environmental health and safety mandates by adherence to policies and procedures.
Ph.D. in a Weed Science or related discipline.
Strong track record of scientific innovation
Demonstrated aptitude in experimental design and hypothesis-driven problem solving is required.
Demonstrated leadership skills are essential.
Desire to work in a multidisciplinary team environment is critical for success.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects under aggressive timelines
Experience in understanding and elucidating herbicide mode-of-action and/or understanding of herbicide resistance mechanisms.
Background in molecular biology, plant biochemistry and xenobiotic metabolism.
Working knowledge in areas of Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
